The Compiled Edition

Code is Just

A record of the British home computer revolution — and one man's place in it.

It began as a live Twitter thread in 2021. I didn't plan it. I didn't edit it. I just wrote, line by line, as the story came — my account of the early 1980s, when a generation taught itself to make machines do its bidding.

What started as a list of old credits became something else.

A story about justice, survival, and finding a voice through code. The thread took on a life of its own — shared widely, praised by broadcasters and developers, even optioned for television. But what people asked for, again and again, was a clean, complete version of the whole thing. One you could hold, and keep.

This is that edition.

  • Compiled and lightly edited for accuracy
  • With added images and footnotes for clarity
  • Preserving the immediacy and rawness of the original

Code doesn't lie.
Code doesn't cheat.
Code is just.
